Natasha's work truly celebrates our heritage, expressed through innovative cocktails, mocktails, and a deep appreciation for the stories our food tells. Background and Inspiration:

Natasha, a communications strategist, blends her love of storytelling with her passion for food and cocktails, creating The Tash Mashup. "Storytelling has always been second nature to me," she says, but her culinary passion kept calling. The Tash Mashup explores the fusion of traditional Indian flavors and modern techniques. "I see every recipe as an opportunity to tell a story," Natasha explains, emphasizing the importance of the experience a drink creates. 

 

Blending Tradition and Innovation:

For Natasha, it's about balance. "Honoring tradition while embracing the opportunity to reinvent flavors," she says. Growing up with bold Indian spices and layered dishes influences her creations. "Even when I'm creating something unexpected, I always draw from that foundation." Her blog showcases this, from the traditional Gajar Halwa Rum Punch to the contemporary Kashmiri Chili Non-Alcoholic Paloma. "Each one is a tribute to where I come from," she emphasizes.


Food as a Cultural Connector:

Natasha sees food as a powerful link to heritage. "My connection to my Indian heritage is deeply tied to the culinary traditions I grew up with," she reflects. "It's more than just sustenance—it’s identity, history, and a sense of belonging." She focuses on the full experience, from chai-spiced drinks evoking warm memories to kokum-based mocktails transporting you to India's coasts. This focus on cultural connection is exemplified by our collaboration on the Indian-Inspired Wine Charms. "It wasn’t just about designing something beautiful," Natasha explains. "It was about creating pieces that intentionally celebrate South Asian heritage—turning even the simplest gatherings with loved ones into something that feels a little more special."


Flavor Experimentation: 

Natasha loves playing with contrasts. "I love playing with contrast and dualities—sweet and spice or rich and light," she says. She aims to bring the layered flavors of Indian cuisine into her drinks. "It’s about layering flavors in a way that sparks curiosity while still feeling rooted in something familiar." Her process involves deep R&D, understanding each ingredient's nuances. "It’s my responsibility to not only experiment but to share those discoveries in a way that feels intentional and accessible."

 

Styling and Presentation:

For Natasha, presentation is key. "Flavor is the foundation, but the presentation is what people experience first," she states. She thinks in layers of color, contrast, height, and texture. "Every detail is intentional," she says, from the garnish to the glassware. This is evident in her collaborations, where even small elements, like the wine charms from our collaboration, contribute to the story. "Just like a thoughtfully crafted cocktail," she says of the charms, "these charms bring storytelling into the details, turning even a simple glass of wine into a moment that feels personal."



Favorite Recipe:

Her favorite is the Gulab Jamun Old Fashioned. "This recipe holds a special place in my heart," she shares. It transforms the beloved gulab jamun into a perfect entertaining drink. "It became a conversation starter about blending culture with mixology." The drink infuses bourbon with gulab jamun syrup, balanced with bitters.It’s festive, and nostalgic, and effortlessly bridges tradition with a craft cocktail experience." Hosting Tips for Valentine’s/Galentine’s Day:

Natasha shares her tips for blending Indian culture with modern entertaining, including special advice for a Valentine/Galentine's Day celebration!

  • Start with a signature welcome drink—but keep it simple. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel to impress guests. Even a small twist, like adding rosewater to a G+T and calling it your house G+T, makes hosting feel fabulous without extra stress.

  • Incorporate interactive elements. I love a DIY bhel station or a garnish bar for cocktails & mocktails (even if they’re RTD/canned). These small touches create a more engaging experience for your guests to mingle! 

  • Set the mood with music. A well-curated playlist is everything. I love the idea of mixing retro Bollywood love songs with light jazz numbers in a single playlist for a Galentine’s party—it creates the perfect atmosphere for party that feels both warm and comforting. 

  • Add small personal touches. It might seem like a small detail, but thoughtful elements—like wine charms paired with name cards for a table setting—help set the scene in the most inviting way. The Indian-Inspired Wine Charms from Tinted Heritage are perfect for this!
