Culture is not a seasonal box: Why Tinted Heritage was created

Anuja Mehra

For a long time, my relationship with my heritage felt like it lived in a cardboard box.

You probably know the one. The box tucked away in the attic or the back of the closet, filled with vibrant silks, intricate brass diyas, and festival decor. It comes out for Diwali, transforming our homes into a kaleidoscope of color for forty-eight hours. And then, as the weekend ends, the culture goes back into the box.

I started asking myself why South Asian culture had to be so loud that it could only exist on special occasions.

When I looked at my modern, minimalist home in New Jersey, I saw a gap. I loved the clean lines and calm of contemporary design, but I missed the soul of the motifs I grew up with. I missed the geometry of a Kolam, the storytelling of Warli art, and the meditative pull of a Mandala.

I wanted Indian-inspired home decor that could live on my dining table and walls every single day, not just when the calendar told me to celebrate.

Why Tinted Heritage Exists

That desire became the foundation of Tinted Heritage.

Tinted Heritage was created for those who want culturally inspired home decor that feels intentional, modern, and rooted in tradition. Pieces that reflect heritage without overwhelming a contemporary space.

The Beauty of the Quiet Narrative

Much of the South Asian home decor available today falls into two extremes. It is either deeply traditional, which can feel heavy in a modern home, or mass-produced, which often loses its soul.

Tinted Heritage lives in the middle. This space is called the Quiet Narrative.

The Quiet Narrative is the belief that culture does not need to shout to be heard.

Every design begins as a hand-drawn concept, inspired by centuries-old Indian art forms and translated into modern Indian decor that fits seamlessly into everyday life.

These are pieces meant to feel just as natural next to a West Elm vase as they do next to a cup of steaming chai.

Small Batches, Big Meaning

This journey has never been about building a massive, faceless brand. It has always been about intention.

Each piece is created in small batches, because heritage deserves intention, not automation. Every design begins by hand and is thoughtfully applied to acacia wood, marble, and slate, then carefully finished and packed with care. The human touch is present at every step.

Tinted Heritage creates handmade home decor designed to bridge cultural roots with modern living.

Believing in the Vision

Being featured on platforms like BuzzFeed and seeing the work resonate beyond the South Asian community have been meaningful milestones. But the most rewarding moments always come from the people who bring these pieces into their homes.

It is the parent who shares that their children are asking questions about the patterns on their coasters. It is the customer who finally feels their home reflects all of who they are, both their South Asian heritage and their modern Western life.

Tinted Heritage exists to make space for culture in everyday moments.

You belong here. Your culture belongs here. And it does not have to stay in a box.
